A compassionate tutor, Courtney has a passion for helping others succeed. She holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Purdue University and has since completed additional higher-level math courses and early childhood development continuing education courses. For thirteen years, she taught in the elementary school setting while also tutoring all ages. For the past two years specifically, Courtney has been traveling with her husband across the nation and substitute teaching. They are currently in the process of creating a nonprofit with the mission to mentor and teach life skills, focusing primarily on at-risk youth and once incarcerated adults so they can become successful members of society. While at Purdue, Courtney regularly earned academic honors. As an instructor, she has developed several integrated curriculum units, as well as two successful grants for education.
Courtney knew she wanted to teach as early as the third grade and officially began her career in 2005. “I’m extremely passionate about helping others pursue their goals and dreams,” she says. “What I love best about teaching is watching my students' confidence build and independence grow in areas that were once a struggle.” In addition to her extensive experience as an elementary school teacher, she has tutored a wide range of students up to the college level, most frequently in math and reading. When asked about her teaching philosophy, Courtney says, "I believe teachers should provide a warm, safe, and loving atmosphere, and build positive relationships for all students so they can receive the guidance they need to ignite their potential.” As a student-centered tutor, Courtney prioritizes teaching the whole person, implementing a variety of instructional methods to meet the needs of any type of learner. “By setting high expectations and fostering a growth mindset, students are better prepared for a changing world, and will gain the confidence to pursue their dreams,” she explains.
As a student, Courtney was a cheerleader, played softball and tennis, was a member of the speech team, and participated in the music departments. She considers music her soul and loves playing the piano, singing, and dancing. “My husband is also a musician, and we enjoy singing and playing music together any chance we can get,” she says. They also love to travel and have traveled across the nation and overseas to Italy and England. She has seen The Eiffel Tower, The Vatican City, The Queen's castle, and The Leaning Tower of Pisa, to name a few. Courtney is related to Molly Ringwald and is a mother of three boys.
