Amanda's Bio

An engaging tutor, Amanda holds an AS from St. Johns River State College, a BS in mechanical engineering with a minor in math from the University of North Florida, and an MS in system engineering with a certificate in business analytical statistics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. After earning her degrees, Amanda worked as a lab technician at ECS Limited Florida, a mechanical engineer in Eng Engineering, and an engineer at the NAS Jacksonville base. Currently, Amanda is an adjunct professor at Jtech Institute of Technology in Florida and an online mathematics and physics tutor.

Amanda discovered her love for teaching while in college when she started tutoring at an after-school tutoring center. “It was enjoyable for me to teach students there because I was able to start coming up with creative ways to explain different topics,” Amanda reflects. She later tutored calculus 3 and differential equations at UNF and also worked as an engineering teacher's assistant. In this role, she created and graded assignments, taught class sessions, and developed projects in the software RoboDK for the professor’s cobot (collaborative robot).

Amanda’s tutoring style is inspired by her favorite teachers and professors, “the ones that were so into their subjects that they loved explaining anything and would take the time after class to explain a lesson or topic to you. I strive to be like them—to always love my subject matter, and be a teacher and tutor that students feel comfortable asking questions.” Throughout her tutoring career, Amanda has tutored students from second grade to college level, though her focus has been on teaching math and science to students from middle school through college. She has also regularly taught the SAT, ACT, and GED.

As a student, Amanda was part of the robotics club, made the Dean’s List, and was a scholarship recipient. Her First Tech Challenge team, Shiva Atomatrons, became champion at the regional level in North Florida.

Amanda loves gardening and doing art and DIY projects, specifically beading jewelry and painting. "I have around thirty different species of tortoises and turtles,” Amanda says when asked to share a fun fact. “I live on a little over an acre where we have built pens and enclosures for the different groups. My biggest is George, a sulcata desert species, at 120 pounds.”
