PrepNow Tutor - Carrie B.

Carrie’s tutoring journey began during her undergraduate years when she helped high school juniors and seniors prepare for the SAT and ACT. She holds a BS in psychology and kinesiology and health sciences (pre-med) from the College of William & Mary, where she graduated magna cum laude. True to her curious nature and her love of learning, Carrie also obtained a master of engineering in cybersecurity from George Washington University. Her next move is to start a career in data privacy and computer security.
During her senior year of college, Carrie acted as a teaching assistant for William & Mary’s “Human Cadaver Lab.” This class has the highest fail rate in the entire kinesiology major. Every week, she spent up to sixteen hours with students in the lab, and she’s proud to share that those in her lab had the highest exam averages! She also served as a tutor at the college’s tutoring center for probability and statistics—her “favorite math class ever”—and a few upper-level psychology courses. After graduating, she followed her passion for community service and joined AmeriCorps to assist the disaster relief efforts in Houston, TX.
Carrie’s teaching style is rooted in effective communication. “I work to make our session a conversation,” she shares. “I strive to ask students what to do next, so by the time we're finished, they know what questions to be asking themselves come test day.” As a result of this particular style, the student gains a level of clarity and confidence around the material. “They are free to make mistakes and to ask their own questions, no matter how simple,” she adds. Ultimately, she wants her students to approach any test or challenge with poise and a cool head.
Carrie was the vice president of her dance company in college and had the opportunity to dance with professional companies across the country. At William & Mary, she served for two years as treasurer of the Psychology International Honors Society (Psi Chi). In high school, she was recognized as a Long Island Youth Scholar of Mathematics by the Institute of Creative Problem Solving for Gifted and Talented Students.
Carrie is a non-fiction audiobook enthusiast! She is proud to say that she is the “number one fan of mid-2000s rom-coms, an avid crocheter, and a below-average runner.” Fun fact: Carrie was in the 0.01% of top Taylor Swift listeners in 2018, 2019, and 2020 on Spotify.
