PrepNow Tutor - Amanda C.
A math and physics tutor, Amanda loves both subjects and has a passion for disability advocacy. “I center accessibility in my tutoring approach, and I enjoy adapting to different learning styles,” Amanda says. They hold a BS in physics, with math and computer science minors, from the University of Central Florida. Since graduating, they have worked as a freelance tutor.
Amanda started tutoring while in college, working as a learning assistant in the physics department. “I instantly found it rewarding and fulfilling,” they share. “I love helping students connect with the material and translating concepts into more intuitive formats, and I love that every student’s brain is different. I especially enjoy tutoring neurodivergent students.” In their role as a learning assistant, Amanda conducted study sessions, developed study materials, and ran the lab components of physics courses. They have many years of experience working with college students in and outside STEM majors. In addition to college physics, Amanda has tutored high school algebra, introductory college math, and linear algebra.
“I'm adept at tutoring material in unique ways because I learn differently myself,” Amanda reflects. “My tutoring style emphasizes accessibility because I believe most barriers to learning are rooted in unmet access needs. When this comes in the form of cognitive barriers I focus on stress reduction, abstraction and reframing of concepts, and other executive functioning supports. Every brain is different, and those differences drive the process.”
In high school, Amanda played the clarinet in the marching band. In college, they were inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
These days, Amanda enjoys baking, gardening, illustration, painting, and disability advocacy; they also play Dungeons & Dragons and Animal Crossing. “I’ve been on the set of Doctor Who!”
