Bell's Bio

Bell earned bachelor’s degrees in English and radio television film at the University of Texas. They also earned a minor in education through the UTeach-Liberal Arts program. They are certified to teach English at the secondary school level. They value working with students of all backgrounds, as well as helping them gain skills and build strengths across multiple areas of study.

Bell added education to their college goals after an inspiring mentorship program in high school. At the University of Texas, Bell was a full time student teacher for around 150 tenth graders planning for test prep. During the pandemic, they taught six classes of eleventh graders, including college prep. Bell has also worked as a long-term substitute English teacher, and has taught coding and filmmaking to students in New York City.

While in college, Bell was a volunteer mentor and tutor for high school students struggling with algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus. Many of Bell’s students increased their grade point average significantly over a six-month period. As someone with ADHD, Bell has developed methods for understanding and remembering math outside of school, which helped to foster their great love for mathematics. They are passionate about helping their students find an unexpected love for math, too.

As a tutor, Bell values patience, understanding, and embracing a motivational positive attitude. They also aspire to give students the tools for further improvement outside of, and after, tutoring. Bell says, “I love helping students discover their own strengths.” They prefer to work hand-in-hand with students, guiding them and acting as a coach rather than a lecturer. “Each student learns differently,” Bell observes, “and I believe a personalized experience can be invaluable.”

In high school, Bell was a member of the National Honor Society. Through this program, they volunteered as a mentor for fourth graders, at the local library, and in environmental cleanups as part of an environmental initiative. At the University of Texas, they accrued over 120 volunteer hours in a single semester. During their time there, they volunteered at a home for those with mental disabilities, at a home for the elderly, and as part of Inside Books, a program that sends literature and resources to incarcerated people. As a resident assistant, Bell worked directly with students and with the University of Texas sustainability coordinator to help develop a better system for composting.

Bell is passionate about bullet journaling, reading, doing breathing exercises and cold water immersion, and listening to 90s music. They are a legally ordained minister.
