PrepNow Tutor - Shana L.
Whether it’s in the theater as an actor and director, or as a writer with her students, Shana is passionate about stories that teach, entertain, and inspire. She graduated from Wesleyan University in 2019 with a BA in theatre and American studies along with a minor in African American studies. Her stellar grades earned her a spot on the Dean's list semester after semester.
Since graduating, she has been working across theatre disciplines including performance, direction, new work development, literary management, and script evaluation. Shana has worked with regional theatres across the country as a freelance artist and is presently the Artistic Apprentice at Round House Theatre in Bethesda, MD. Her work has been featured in DC at Mosaic Theatre Company, Spooky Action Theatre, and Cogent Theatre Collective. As of fall 2022, she is directing two shows with Round House.
At Wesleyan, Shana enjoyed tutoring essay writing for two years. She was also a Hebrew tutor and a teaching assistant for American literature and acting. Additionally, she worked in the Wesleyan Office of Admission as a senior interviewer, meeting with hundreds of prospective students to determine their fit for the school. "I love watching the pieces fall into place for students and seeing their previously roadblocked paths open up to new possibilities in storytelling," she notes.
Shana describes her teaching style as “undercover.” When it comes to crafting personal statements, Shana wants students to feel as comfortable as possible, speaking openly about their experiences and using their real voices on the page. "I try to guide students to their own revelations and discoveries rather than providing suggestions or structure for them that could be easier to regurgitate without original thought," she concludes.
In college, Shana was in theatre, dance, the Alpha Delta Phi Literary Society, and also was a campus tour guide. In her free time, she loves trying new restaurants, spending time with friends, knitting, and playing with her dog.
