PrepNow Tutor - Kristin J.
A lifelong learner and lover of words, Kristin is an award-winning writer, published author, screenwriter, and co-producer of a short film; she is also someone who loves to share her knowledge through tutoring. She holds a BA from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) in literature and creative writing/arts and ideas, and an MPW from the University of Southern California. As a student, Kristin was the recipient of several awards and honors. In addition to her work as a tutor, Kristin has worked in professional writing as a ghostwriter, journalist, author, and screenwriter. Since 2020, college essay counseling and tutoring writing have been her focus, alongside her own writing.
Kristin started tutoring as a high school student. Most recently, she’s taught young adults in writing seminars and mentored high school and college students on essay writing. “My teaching style involves a lot of listening to the students and asking questions,” Kristin says. “While I love to impart knowledge, I'm always curious about what the students know and think. I also use stories and examples in my teaching where necessary.” Kristin’s teaching style is inspired by her late mother, who was a teacher and librarian; her mother emphasized to Kristin that students have their unique strengths and weaknesses and that tailoring to the individual student is crucial.
In high school, Kristin volunteered to help under-served kids and was involved with newspapers and literary magazines. She was also the assistant to a girls’ basketball team. In college, she continued to volunteer, work on the campus newspaper, and participated in numerous creative writing groups. She enjoys reading, movies, chess, swimming, walking, nature, yoga, pilates, fitness, science fiction and fantasy, fine dining, art, travel, cultural events, volunteering, and spending time with family and friends. Kristin’s writing has won numerous awards and she was an extra on “Chicago Hope.”
