Sahar's Bio

With 16 years of experience working with students as young as age two, Sahar is well-versed in the most effective learning methods and also how to pivot based on each student’s needs. While most of her experience is centered on tutoring math and physics to high school and college students, she has several years of experience working in the disciplines of writing, film, nature studies, and other sciences. She’s proud to share that, with her guidance, many of her students got accepted to their dream universities!

Sahar holds a B.Sc. in brain and cognitive science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Her experiences teaching math, science, art, and nature studies at various summer schools have helped expand her creativity in teaching.

She cares deeply about her students not just as students but as whole, healthy humans—she even spent six years making a feature-length documentary highlighting more balanced student lifestyles. “In 2012, I worked with Honey Bee Network in Gujarat, India, filming innovative teachers to capture their personalities and novel educational ideas,” she recounts. She then prepared a database of innovations developed by school teachers across India as well as other countries.

Teaching has always been present in her life. "Teaching runs in my family, with my father being a math professor and my mother an art and preschool teacher. From my childhood, my parents were teaching at our home or in public, and I would watch them,” she says. So when she was asked to be a volunteer tutor in high school, she couldn’t resist! “It is so beautiful to be a part of someone's transformation and witness the power and potential of each person on their path,” she reflects.

“My philosophy is that a teacher who is a friend can also be a mentor,” she proclaims. Playing the roles of teacher, friend, and mentor, she creates a safe space for students to be authentic, ask questions, and grow. “I care deeply about my students and work from the heart!” She uses creative ways to relate concepts to practical daily experiences that students can easily relate to. As a whole, she describes her teaching style as dynamic, social, and entertaining. “I constantly put myself in the shoes of my students to come up with engaging and relatable techniques of supporting them in their journey of learning.”

At the Breck School of Science & Math, she won a Departmental Distinction Award and gained recognition for her pristine research projects. She was a member of the Cum Laude Society and represented the Breck School at the Student Diversity Leadership Conference. She’s also proud to share that her written work won first place (MIT’s Ellen King Prize for Freshman Writing) and has been published in MIT’s official magazine. From earning hefty scholarships to holding a top spot on headmaster’s lists, she proved herself an exemplary student and hopes to instill in her students a similar passion and drive!

In her free time, she enjoys nature, meditation, yoga, and anything related to personal growth. She can often be found making art, dancing, and adventuring with friends. “One of my passions is working at transformational festivals that are organized in nature and offer self-development workshops as well as unique dance and music experiences."
