PrepNow Tutor - Caroline K.
Former museum educator and classroom teacher turned in-home tutor Caroline has taught in Cambodia, China, and the US. Caroline attended Harvard University for both her undergraduate and her graduate degrees. She first earned her bachelor's in environmental sciences and engineering. Caroline then enrolled at the Harvard Graduate School of Education where she earned a master's in education in STEM education. As a high school student, Caroline was a finalist in materials science and engineering at Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. In college, she was honored to be chosen as the Harvard Teacher Fellows Class Marshal as well as the Harvard Nakanishi Award for Integrity and Willingness to Serve. She is currently furthering her education in child development and psychology.
After earning her master's, Caroline began working at the MIT Museum developing activities to foster science engagement. She then worked as a pharmaceutical distribution strategist. Her passion, however, has always been education. Caroline was granted a Fulbright Fellowship to teach in Cambodia. She now lives in Texas and works at a clinic with autistic students.
“Growth happens at its own pace,” Caroline says. Across a range of subjects, Caroline has found that students must dictate their own progress. She has worked with elementary students on English, reading, mathematics, and science. At the middle school level, Caroline taught general sciences. And at the high school level, she has experience with the more specific STEM subjects of chemistry and biology. Her proudest moment was not about a single student, rather an entire class surpassing their previous year’s scores. “I want to ensure that students feel comfortable and safe when working with me,” she explains. “I believe that a motivated student starts with a safe space which can be built through accessibility, conversation, and meeting students where they are.”
Outside of the classroom, Caroline likes bullet journaling and getting crafty with clothing. In her school years, she spent her time playing ultimate frisbee and powerlifting. Additionally, she was a dedicated volunteer at her local homeless shelter. Caroline also loves a good road trip!
