PrepNow Tutor - Ryan B.
Ryan is adept at finding ways to foster curiosity in a subject, which is key to inspiring more efficient, deeper learning. He has worked with students ranging from 4th graders to adults in math and physics, particularly courses like algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, trigonometry, calculus I & II (including AP/AB & honors), biology, and AP Physics. He also has experience with SAT, ACT, and AP test prep.
Ryan graduated with his AA from from Eastern Florida State College. He then received a BS in physics, with a specialization in materials, from University of Central Florida. He is currently a student at the University of Florida in materials science and engineering.
While he has been remote tutoring for five years, he began tutoring biology students when he was an undergraduate student. In addition to online tutoring, he currently works at Eastern Florida State College, where he has been a learning specialist since 2017. His proudest moments: “Any time a student comes back to tell me they passed!”
Ryan’s student-forward approach is to cater to their interests, particularly when it comes to making otherwise boring material seem useful and fun for them. “You cannot force a student to enjoy a school subject, but you can show them how the subject can relate to them,” he explains. “Too many students say the same thing, ‘What is this used for?’, ‘Why do I have to learn this?’, and I use my style to help answer those questions,” he adds. Moreover, he focuses on building confidence and discipline in a safe, structured format so that students get a boost of pride, not just from mastering material but also from learning how they learn best.
His math proficiency earned him the Math Excellence Award at Eastern Florida State College, where he also played tennis and golf.
An Eagle Scout, he takes every opportunity to learn and help others. “I love to be challenged!” He’s also fond of “the beach, DC/Marvel movies, video games, and God!”
