PrepNow Tutor - Clarnisha Y.

With a background in chemical engineering, Clarnisha boasts a strong understanding of STEM concepts and a talent for breaking them down in relatable, engaging ways. Her expertise includes algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, chemistry (including AP), physical science, study skills, and test prep. While she has worked for several top online tutoring companies, she has also tutored SAT math in person at a learning center in Indianapolis, IN.
She earned a BS in chemical engineering with a minor in chemistry from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. After working in chemical engineering for a time, she began tutoring part-time and discovered a deep passion for helping students in STEM subjects. Working part-time in engineering allows her to connect course materials with real-world applications.
“One of my proudest moments was working with a student who had completely shut down on chemistry,” she recalls. “After weeks of working together using visuals and breaking the content into manageable parts, she passed her final with confidence. That moment reminded me that patient, personalized instruction can change a student’s academic outlook completely.”
Clarnisha takes a flexible, empathetic, and student-driven approach. “I believe every student learns differently, so I adapt my instruction to meet them where they are; whether that means slowing down, using visuals, or connecting concepts to real-world situations,” she explains. She views education as a “partnership, not a performance,” ensuring her students are engaged and empowered in the learning process. She offers a welcoming learning environment, where students feel comfortable asking questions. “When students feel safe, respected, and supported, they’re more willing to take risks, ask questions, and grow academically,” she adds.
In high school, she was involved in science club, track and field, and peer tutoring programs. In college, she was on the dean’s list and participated in the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and volunteered at STEM outreach events for younger students.
In her free time, she enjoys reading science fiction, hiking, and exploring new cooking recipes. She’s also fond of tuning into psychology and history podcasts. Fun fact: she has read every book in the “Magic School Bus” series more than once. “It’s what sparked my love for science as a kid!”
