Rebecca's Bio

A recent graduate, math whiz Rebecca is well-versed in the latest and best study practices. In 2019, she tutored pre-calculus at the college level, then taught math and SAT prep at a math-focused tutoring center before transitioning to in-home private tutoring. “I love helping students learn new methods and ways to solve problems that they may not have heard before, but can make understanding the material much easier!”

Rebecca earned a BS in mathematics from Fitchburg State University. While she initially studied education and pursued teaching licensure to become a classroom teacher, she realized she could be more effective in helping students who don't always adhere to classroom learning methods. “Being a bridge for students between where they may have slipped behind, and where they need to be for class brings me so much joy, and I'm excited that it's something I get to do every day!” she shares.

Her proudest classroom memory was helping a struggling math student exceed her own expectations—by a whole letter grade! “She was so excited because she never thought she could do that well in math. I was—and still am—so proud to be a part of her improvement and success!" she gushes.

Flexibility is the root of her teaching philosophy. She understands that the most effective tutoring is all about tweaking her own methods. “A lot of students get stuck because the way they are taught certain material in class doesn't really click, and they never get the chance to learn things a different way or with a different method,” she explains. No two learners are alike, so she works hard to develop a variety of ways to approach material. “My goal is to always be patient and understanding that not every method works for every student, and taking the extra time to find a way that works for them will always be better in the long run.,” she adds.

In high school, she was a member of concert and marching bands and participated in other music groups like choir and jazz band. She also took dance classes and volunteered at local organizations. In college, she was an orientation leader and tour guide and enjoyed special interest clubs like the Harry Potter and gaming clubs.

While she loves reading and playing board games, her number one hobby is crafting. She has made everything from sweaters and blankets to stuffed animals and knitted or crocheted goods. A lifelong learner, she enjoys indulging in a good book with her cat on her lap.
