PrepNow Tutor - Ashley H.

Ashley has tutored reading, writing, chemistry, biology, and math, and has worked with students ranging from kindergarten to high school. For two years, she has helped students increase their scores on the SAT and ACT.
She earned a BS in biomedical engineering from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor. After graduating, she worked as a field service engineer in biotech for a major life sciences corporation. In 2022, she began a pre-medical post-baccalaureate program at Harvard Extension School and worked as a clinical care technician at Tufts Medical Center. She’s proud to share that she has been trusted to train and teach new hires in each professional position she has held since college. In addition to tutoring, she currently works as a clinical care technician and plans to enroll in medical school.
For Ashley, patience is key. She lets students take the lead and is quick to spot what they might need most to overcome learning blocks. “I am a firm believer in not only teaching content but also the process of problem-solving as a whole; and, in order to teach problem-solving techniques, I let the students work through as much of the practice problems as they can before offering assistance,” she explains. She wants her students to develop strong foundations and heightened critical thinking skills so they can conquer future challenges with confidence.
As an undergraduate, she regularly made the dean’s list and graduated with University Honors. She also was the sisterhood chair of her sorority chapter and part of a professional engineering fraternity. She’s proud to have participated in undergraduate research projects and, during her senior year, she interned at a medical device company.
In high school, she played field hockey and soccer all four years. On top of being captain of the field hockey team, she was a member of her school’s National Honors Society and National Charity League. In her free time, she volunteered with a local humane society shelter, helping manage kennels and walking dogs.
A “huge fan of the outdoors,” she enjoys hiking, biking, running, skiing (in the winter), and gardening. When she’s not exploring, she enjoys going to concerts and trying new recipes in the kitchen. Not-so-fun fact: she broke both arms in 4th grade—ouch! However, the experience sparked her interest in the medical field.
