PrepNow Tutor - Vladislav Z.
Vladislav has been tutoring on and off since high school. In graduate school, Vladislav taught physics labs for courses covering topics like electronics and instrumentation, classical mechanics, calculus-based electricity and magnetism, and waves and optics. For three years as part of a weekend summer program, he also taught high school students special relativity.
He earned his BS in physics (with minors in math, computer science, and nuclear engineering) in 2011 from the NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering and studied next at the Stevens Institute of Technology before transferring to Stony Brook University. It was at Stony Brook that he received a PhD in physics in 2023. His dissertation focused on a mixture of theoretical and experimental physics.
Vladislav states that his broad approach to teaching is just "being myself, and the students seem to like that!" As to his teaching style, he says, "I try to get students to understand the fundamental principles behind the subject." For example, he teaches relative velocities in physics by giving a concrete example of a student jumping up on a moving train; to demonstrate, he might use his phone or some other prop to visualize the motion. Vladislav says that he has seen many students significantly improve their grades.
During summer 2023, he volunteered at Brookhaven National Laboratory in their one-day Sunday Program to showcase physics to the general public. Currently, Vladislav enjoys spending time with friends and doing handyman work.
