PrepNow Tutor - Taylor A.
A lifelong learner who loves to spread the joy of learning to others, Taylor holds a BA from High Point University; she majored in both computer science and game design, and has a minor in mathematics. Since 2017, she has worked as a video games quality assurance analyst, initially at Adult Swim Games Warner Bros and now at That’s No Moon. She has also taught a summer game design course at NSLC.
Taylor started tutoring in middle school out of a love for math and reading. She continued to tutor in a more professional capacity in college, which included working as a supplemental instructor for college math and computer science courses. “I love being able to help students understand a concept,” Taylor says. “When they have the aha moment, that’s what I live for.” She has tutored test prep as well as high school and college math.
“My teaching style involves figuring out the student's strengths and using them to rethink and boost their weaknesses,” Taylor says. For example, if a student is really good at solving math word problems, she’ll teach them how to read standard equations as though they are word problems, so that students can more easily solve them. “When I’m teaching I like to teach in a way that can be easily understood by the student, so explaining it in a way that caters to their strengths is my way to go,” Taylor says.
As a student, Taylor participated in the Tutor Club, Tree Huggers Club, and Game Design Club and was the recipient of numerous academic and service awards. In her free time, Taylor enjoys reading, writing, dancing, and playing video games. She has written two novels and received an Emmy Nomination for working on the game Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality.
