PrepNow Tutor - Favor I.
Creative, kind, and an active listener, Favor recently graduated from college. She earned her bachelor's in biochemistry at Texas Christian University. She was recognized by the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program and Honors College for her research and academic achievement. She was also a member of the John V. Roach Honors College, which requires a strong GPA as well as the completion of an independent thesis. Since graduating, she has been volunteering and studying for the MCAT.
Favor began tutoring in high school by teaching a friend some concepts. From there, she worked with peers, then expanded to other schools. She loves to break down complex material and this pastime allowed her to do just that. Favor has taught high school mathematics, English, and sciences. Additionally, she tutored SAT and ACT prep. She has also worked with undergraduate students in chemistry I and II, biology I and II, and a wide range of upper-level chemistry and biology courses. “Some of my most rewarding moments as a tutor have come from watching a student pass a course they nearly gave up on and seeing them discover the study style that works best for them,” she says.
As a tutor, Favor tries to be creative. “If possible I like to draw or connect broader concepts to real life scenarios,” she explains. Her approach centers on meeting students where they are. “Before anything else, I work to understand how a student thinks, where their confidence breaks down, and what study habits are and are not working for them,” she says.
As a college student, Favor was actively involved in the African Students Organization and the Black Student Association. She served as the secretary for the ASO and the president of the BSA. She was also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Incorporated, an historic African-American sorority dedicated to sisterhood, scholarship, service and social action. Outside of school, Favor likes to paint, read, and write. Her favorite animal is a koi fish.
