PrepNow Tutor - Anders B.
Since 2010 Anders has taught and tutored test prep to myriad students and in many capacities, including one-on-one and in classrooms. He received his AS degree from Northern Virginia Community College and a BA in writing, rhetoric, and technical communication from James Madison University. "I have actually not worked in any other field since college because my test prep has been successful and self-perpetuating: happy students and parents generate referrals, and this field has treated me very well!"
As a kid, Anders would listen to his teachers and think to himself, "Here's an area where the teacher wasn't clear. How would I have explained that differently?" So from a very young age, Anders has had an instinctive love and passion for teaching and learning. "This fascination drives me to contemplate the art of teaching and constantly seek to hone my craft," he shares. His proudest tutoring moment was helping a student with ADHD and autism who was resistant to the very concept of standardized testing significantly improve his score. "I tailor my teaching style to students with learning differences such as dyslexia, ADHD, or autism, drawing on fifteen years of experience serving a diverse range of students," he reflects.
Encouragement and persistence are the main hallmarks of the teaching approach that Anders embraces. "I cultivate students' welcomeness to ask questions by using a Socratic tutoring method," he says. However, Anders also provides a firm foundation of core skills so that students can thrive, providing granular step-by-step walkthroughs when first teaching a method or technique. "I see it as my sacred responsibility as a teacher to anticipate questions that students are likely to ask, incorporating a student's score report, unique strengths and weaknesses, and individual questions," he shares. "My role is to coach as well as teach. Helping the student across the finish line means ensuring that all work gets done, and I am unwavering in holding students accountable."
In school, Anders participated in cross country, Latin Club and Certamen, the literary magazine, and the newspaper. He was a member of Phi Theta Kappa honors society while at Northern Virginia Community College.
These days, he enjoys reading books, hot yoga, running, and computers. "I love making AI music on Suno, particularly the challenge of weaving a song that can rise above the "AI slop" label," he says. Anders also has a cat named Princess Beauty.
