PrepNow Tutor - Elizabeth B.
Elizabeth has 15 years of experience as a private SAT and ACT tutor. She has taught kindergarten and advanced classes for grades 2-8, and as of Summer 2026, she teaches high school chemistry, biology, and ACT prep. A math maven, Elizabeth specializes in tutoring courses like pre-algebra, algebra I, algebra II, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus, AP Probability, and statistics. “I love all things to do with math and science!”
Elizabeth earned a BA in elementary education from the University of Northwestern in St. Paul, MN, and an MA in literacy instruction (K-12) from Hamline University in St. Paul, MN.
Elizabeth caught the teaching bug while working as a summertime, evening, and weekend tutor at a local learning center. “I enjoyed connecting with the students one-on-one and meeting them at their level of instruction to help them reach their potential,” she recalls. “My ongoing proudest moments as a teacher/tutor are when students write back to me to say that they have achieved their goals or raised their scores on the SAT or ACT,” she adds.
Her tutoring style is “slow and thorough,” and she utilizes what she calls a “guided release of responsibility,” which shifts students toward independence when applying new material and processes. “As students demonstrate independent mastery, we then move more quickly and practice to the point of automatic mastery. This ensures a stable score increase that is less dependent on testing circumstances,” she explains.
She’s proud to share that she redesigned the reading program at her school to incorporate guided reading and differentiation to better meet the needs of all students. She also designed and implemented an accelerated program for advanced learners in grades K-8.
As a former student, she was on the high honor roll and dean’s list throughout college. She also played the piano and was involved in speech and debate, drama, and the National Honor Society.
When she’s not helping students crack tests, she loves reading (various genres, but especially books with film adaptations so she can compare and contrast), hiking, swimming, and kayaking.
Fun fact: “I went on a fast world tour after college and have spent time wandering while lost in many of the major cities in Europe, including Paris, Rome, Venice, London, and Athens.”
