PrepNow Tutor - James G.
A driven and friendly tutor, James holds an AS in kinesiology and information technologies from Laredo College and a BBA cum laude from Texas A&M International University. He has an active license as a Texas Teacher specializing in core subjects with STR, grades 4-8, with special certification in science grades 4-8, and a Professional Pedagogy Certification and an ESL certification. Since 2018, James has taught middle school science and worked as the team lead.
James started tutoring as a college student, initially teaching younger students in math, reading, and writing. “I found fulfillment in the work as many students started performing better on their tests,” James reflects. He started tutoring professionally in 2015, primarily teaching test prep and STEM subjects. “My proudest moment was having my lowest-performing students improve to a quintile jump on their standardized test scores.”
James takes great joy in working with his students. “I make it a point to take a vested interest in my test prep students,” he says. “You find greater success in teaching when you know your students individually.” James describes his teaching style as relational and hands-on, as well as engaging and coordinated. “My task is to help the student get closer to what they want to achieve," he explains. James is eager to work for his students to provide the best experience to help them reach their goals. “It is my mission to make sure that your student is confident in their ability to take their SAT/ACT and succeed.”
As a student, James received awards from his college for Most Spirited, served as a public relations officer for the campus Student Government Organization, and was an active member in several groups, including Phi Theta Kappa, Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education, and a contemporary arts dance club. James was nominated Teacher of the Month in 2024.
In his free time, he enjoys hiking, swimming, pickleball, movie watching, model kits, video gaming, reading, and cooking. “I once opened for a pop concert in Mexico,” James says.
