PrepNow Tutor - Will M.
A test prep tutor with an educational background in environmental science, Will loves to learn and help others learn. He holds a BS in environmental science from Loyola University Chicago and an AS in biology from Joliet Junior College. Since graduating in 2023, Will has worked full-time as a safety coordinator at a large research laboratory. “My job is to ensure scientists can perform their work safely by creating and reviewing procedures, completing regular inspections, responding to emergency events, and more,” Will shares. “Every day is a new experience at my job, and I love that it keeps me on my toes!”
Will started tutoring in high school through a program that allowed him to spend his advisory period mentoring other students. “My proudest tutoring moments are when a student is able to get excited about a type of problem or assignment that may have once caused them frustration,” Will says. Over the years, he has continued tutoring, teaching high school-level English, math, and science, as well as college-level environmental science.
“I have a supportive teaching style that emphasizes assisting the student with finding solutions, as opposed to demonstrating my exact methodology every time,” Will explains. “I believe the most effective teaching comes from helping students find ways of solving problems that work intuitively for them.” Will emphasizes transferable strategies that students can apply across subjects, equipping them to approach unfamiliar problems on exams with confidence.
As a student, Will participated in sports (track and cross-country); he was also in student council, Peer Helpers, National Honor Society, Mathletes, Scholastic Bowl, and the Student Environmental Alliance. Additionally, he was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa and was a STEM Scholars award recipient.
Will is an avid distance runner and also enjoys playing guitar, watching movies, and anything to do with the outdoors, but especially hiking. “I'm the youngest of eight in my family!”
