PrepNow Tutor - Carlos S.
A collaborative tutor, Carlos is always eager to help his students. He holds three degrees: a BS in electronic engineering from Pontifical Catholic University of Peru; an MS in physics from Curtin University, which is in Australia; and a PhD in natural sciences from Ruhr University Bochum, which is in Germany. After earning his degrees, Carlos taught computer science and electronic engineering as a lecturer at various universities. Since moving to the US in 2025, he’s been primarily tutoring. “My motivation when tutoring has always been to help students gain confidence and develop strong problem-solving skills,” Carlos says.
Carlos started tutoring math and physics as an undergraduate student and continued this work as a university lecturer, helping college students bridge gaps in mathematical and conceptual foundations. “Working with first-year undergraduates, many of whom entered my courses with gaps in fields related to maths, strengthened my ability to adapt instruction, provide clear explanations, and support learners with diverse needs,” Carlos explains. His expertise includes algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus. “My proudest moments as a teacher are when some students at the end of the classes approach me and tell me that the lesson was very well explained, they understood it in detail, and found the topic was very useful,” Carlos reflects.
“My tutoring style is structured and student-centered,” Carlos says. “My main objective is that students understand why a method works before emphasizing speed and memorization. Of course, I provide students with efficient strategies to practice under realistic exam conditions.” This style comes from Carlos’s extensive years of teaching complex technical subjects, especially at the university level. “I am always focused on students building strong conceptual foundations, and that they are actively involved in the learning process.” He is an excellent test prep tutor because he combines deep subject mastery with clear, structured instruction.
As a student, Carlos played soccer and basketball. He used to surf when he was living in Australia and Peru, and he now enjoys running and doing workouts. As a university instructor, Carlos has received recognition for his excellent tutoring. “I come from South America, but I can’t dance salsa,” Carlos admits.
