PrepNow Tutor - Alex H.
Since 2021, Alex has taught algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, and statistics in classrooms around DC and Virginia. In addition to tutoring, he currently teaches at an alternative school in DC, where he works with students of various backgrounds and abilities, including those with IEPs. “I have wanted to teach since I was 6 years old and am happy to be doing so!”
He earned a master of education from Johns Hopkins and a BS in business administration from Washington and Lee University. Alex began teaching as part of Urban Teachers, now known as City Teaching Alliance. “My proudest moment was working with a student in my 1st year who struggled a lot, who then went on to become valedictorian!”
Regarding his teaching approach, relevance comes first; he works hard to create sparks between the material and his students’ interests. “I believe it’s easiest to work your hardest when you enjoy what you’re doing, or if you at least care,” he says. Alex aims to foster a sense of curiosity in his students, whom he hopes will become lifelong learners. “As educators, we teach problem-solving, math, English, etc., but we also have to teach life skills and fuel passion for learning,” he concludes.
As a student, he played college football, which he still loves. These days, he enjoys winding down with anime.
