PrepNow Tutor - Emma G.
An enthusiastic tutor who finds joy in helping others succeed, Emma holds a BA in French and mathematics from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and is pursuing an MS in applied statistics. Since graduating, she has worked as a private tutor and substitute teacher, and has passed several actuarial exams. Emma has earned Teacher of the Month for exceptional SAT/ACT tutoring three times. “I'm passionate about mathematics and the way it blends logic with creativity,” Emma shares.
Emma started tutoring because she wanted to share what she had learned and help others succeed. “I love tutoring because it lets me help others enjoy learning,” she says. She has tutored K–12 verbal and math, all sections of the SAT and ACT, the ASVAB, and courses including algebra I and II, geometry, business calculus, calculus I and II, and statistics.
“I am well-versed in the SAT/ACT material and understand how intimidating standardized exams can feel,” Emma says. “I'm excited to help students prepare because I know how life-changing it is to become an adept and confident test taker.” Emma believes that many SAT skills are valuable life skills, and she enjoys explaining how subjects like advanced math, statistics, grammar, and reading comprehension can make the world around you make more sense.
“My teaching style is patient and supportive,” Emma says. “I always ensure that the student can solve each type of problem independently and with confidence.” Emma is an excellent listener and tailors her approach to each student’s needs, always staying positive and encouraging. “I also see preparing for major exams as a privilege, and therefore a good problem to have in life, because it shows a person is moving toward meaningful opportunities,” she notes.
As a student, Emma participated in the jazz ensemble, cross country, and math club. She’s an avid reader, especially of classics and horror novels, and also loves cooking and taking care of her animals. “As I've grown older, I have become increasingly interested in research,” Emma shares. “I am pursuing my master’s degree because I have a strong foundation in topics such as statistical learning, credibility theory, time series, linear mixed models, advanced GLMS, and more, and I am excited to apply this knowledge at a rigorous level.”
