PrepNow Tutor - Omi M.
A medical student with experience in education, program coordination, and community outreach, Omi holds a BS with honors in cell biology and neuroscience from Montana State University; he is currently pursuing an MD from St. George’s University in Grenada.
Omi has worked in multiple roles supporting students in STEM and health sciences, including serving as a Program Coordinator for Mentoring in Medicine; in this position he helped run academic enrichment programs for underserved youth and taught STEM and health science topics to middle and high school students. Currently, he is a final-year medical student completing his remaining clinical training while working and tutoring part-time and contributing to community-focused educational initiatives.
Omi began teaching in college at the Montana State University tutoring center, where he tutored biology, chemistry, and physics. “That experience showed me how much I enjoy helping students build confidence and master difficult scientific concepts, and it set the foundation for my long-term commitment to education and mentorship,” he says.
“My proudest moment as a mentor came when one of my former students, whom I personally taught and coached, was accepted into veterinary school. Seeing a student reach a goal that once felt out of reach and knowing that I played a part in that journey is the reason I continue to teach and support learners today.” After graduating, Omi continued tutoring independently, working with high school and college students in science, math, pre-med coursework, and MCAT preparation.
“I would describe my teaching and tutoring style as patient, structured, and very student-centered,” Omi says. “I focus on meeting students at their current level, breaking difficult concepts into simple steps, and building confidence through clear explanations and steady practice. I believe students learn best when they feel supported through a process that makes sense to them rather than pushed through material they are not ready for.” Omi’s approach comes from experience working with students who often felt intimidated by science or math. “I learned early on that most students are capable of far more than they realize once they have someone who can translate complex ideas into something they can truly grasp,” he explains. “That insight shaped my philosophy: effective teaching is not about showing how much you know, it is about lifting a student to a point where they feel capable and independent.”
Omi participated in track and field throughout high school and was involved in photography in college, which he still continues to enjoy. He received several academic honors throughout his education; he has also consistently earned top scores on his clinical board exams and has received honors in all of his clinical rotations.
Outside of work, Omi loves activities that keep him creative, active, and grounded, such as playing guitar, reading, learning new skills, and staying active. “A fun fact about me is that I won a Victory Royale the very first time I ever played Fortnite,” he shares.
