PrepNow Tutor - Dylan S.

A passionate and driven tutor, Dylan holds both a BS in computer science with a minor in mathematics and an MS in computer science from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Throughout his studies, Dylan worked as a teaching assistant, inspired by his love of sharing his knowledge and helping others learn.
Dylan first taught as an undergraduate teaching assistant for Engineering Fundamentals I, where he discovered his passion for working with students one-on-one during office hours. Dylan went on to teach as a graduate teaching assistant, instructing Algorithm Analysis and Automata. Through his career, he has gained extensive experience in algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. “I make an excellent test prep tutor because I have excelled on the SAT and ACT myself, and have been able to convey how to solve the test problems in an effective manner that students will remember when taking the final test,” Dylan says.
Dylan’s teaching style is easygoing and guiding. “I try to walk my students through problems as opposed to just giving them answers, while also giving them hints when they're stuck,” he explains. “I always offer my students ways they can remember how to solve problems in the future.” Dylan believes that this approach better prepares students than just giving them answers. “I love tutoring and teaching because, more than anything, I love helping others,” Dylan says. “Nothing makes me happier and prouder than knowing someone that I taught has improved in their knowledge and that it has reflected in their test scores.”
In high school, Dylan was involved in his school's cross-country and track teams, as well as theater and chorus. In college, he participated in his university's eSports club, as well as "Duck Hunt", an organization that aimed to help students learn their way around campus by hiding rubber ducks around it. He was also a member of the Cook Grand Challenge Engineering Honors program at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. His hobbies and interests outside of work include music, sports, and video games. “I have near-perfect pitch,” Dylan shares.
