“I’m passionate about my work and enjoy the never-ending process of learning,” William says. A flexible test prep tutor, William holds a BS in computer engineering from Texas A&M University. After briefly working as a research assistant in college, since graduating, William has worked as a software engineer at a technology company.
William’s first formal teaching experience was in middle school, where he had the opportunity to read and explain books to younger students at his local library. “However, the event I am most proud of was when I advised and helped edit a mentee's college application essays, who later got into their dream school,” William recalls. “Few things bring as much happiness as an admission letter from the place you hope to spend the soon-to-be four most important years of your life.” William continued tutoring through high school and college, working with students across the core curriculum, including various advanced levels of math.
“I value flexibility when it comes to teaching,” William says. “Every student is different—in their confidence, learning style, personality, and more. It only makes sense to tailor the teaching experience towards each student’s strengths. As such, recognizing how a student learns, refining their method of learning, and helping expand their comfort level with the material at hand are what I believe to be the goals of any teacher. And, of course, patience is key!”
In high school, William received the AP Scholar Award and was a National Merit Commended student. He played violin for ten years and was in the orchestra for seven of those years. In university, he was part of the University Honors Program, made the dean's list, and was part of a running group.
“I enjoy visiting natural and historical locations and all the walking associated with getting to and around such places,” William says. “At home, I enjoy cooking, where I often experiment with new recipes or spontaneously add twists upon old favorites.” He also enjoys reading fiction of various genres and has a passing interest in cryptography. “My biggest bucket list item is to visit Antarctica!”
