PrepNow Tutor - Mia A.
A certified teacher and test prep tutor, Mia holds a BA in elementary education, K-6 from Kean University and is certified in both K-6 Teaching and Teaching Students with Disabilities. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree at Montclair State University. “My ultimate goal is to create a curriculum that helps students develop social-emotional skills to support their academic success,” Mia says.
Mia started tutoring in high school when classmates regularly sought her help in math. She has continued to tutor throughout her academic and professional career, helping students of all ages gain confidence in subjects they once found intimidating. She’s known for her high energy, adaptability, and ability to connect with students of all ages. While Mia has over five years of experience tutoring K-8 in all subjects and one year teaching middle school special education in all subjects, she’s especially passionate about preparing students for the SAT and ACT.
Mia’s approach to education is rooted in personal experience. As a child, Mia was placed in several resource room-level classes, with the expectation that she would remain there throughout her schooling. A pivotal moment came in fourth grade, when a teacher recognized her potential and motivated her to transition out. “This accomplishment helped me feel seen as an individual student, not just a score or name,” she recalls. The experience continues to shape her work with students today. “Every student deserves to be recognized for their unique strengths and needs,” Mia says. “My teaching philosophy centers on creating a collaborative environment where students feel empowered to take the lead, build confidence, and ask for help when they need it, especially during test prep.”
In her free time, Mia enjoys stopping to “smell the roses,” exploring new places both near and far, and taking joy rides through the snow or along the beach.
