PrepNow Tutor - Issachar C.

A tutor who is passionate about learning, Issachar values the pursuit of knowledge for both personal and professional enrichment. He holds an AS cum laude from Lone Star College and a BS magna cum laude in computer science from the University of Houston. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree with a focus on AI.
“My gap year teaching in Israel is what got me passionate about teaching, since I've always loved to study and learn but never realized how amazing teaching could be,” Issachar says when asked about his tutoring journey. “I have many proud moments, mostly with students going ‘ohhh, that makes sense!’, but my favorite is when one of my second grade students in Kyriat Gat, Israel looked at me and told me, ‘Even when I'm as old as you, I'll still remember you.’” Issachar has taught ESL to elementary through middle school students, as well as math up to the high school level, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
Issachar utilizes the Socratic method when tutoring, asking students questions to uncover the logic and facts beneath a topic being learned. “I love this method because it not only makes the topic much more understandable, but it makes the process of learning much more engaging and personal,” Issachar says. “In general, I very much promote asking questions and not being afraid to ask for any clarification. My philosophy, not only for education but life in general, is that learning is one of the best things any person can do, because it not only makes us much more aware of our lives, but it helps bring even more meaning to it. As Socrates said, ‘The unexamined life is not worth living.’”
In high school, Issachar was involved in the robotics club and choir. In college, he was involved in various activities. Besides teaching and learning, Issachar is passionate about music, philosophy, and time well spent with family and friends. “I am a strong believer that life is best enjoyed not only by doing what is fun but also by doing what is difficult, with the reward of accomplishing such tasks being what makes life meaningful,” Issachar says.
