PrepNow Tutor - Beatriz C.

Beatriz is a trained physicist who found her love for tutoring well before she chose a degree path. Like a lot of future educators, Beatriz began by helping peers in middle and high school studies. Then, beginning in 2015, as she earned a BA in physics from Skidmore College, she worked as a physics tutor, helping others in general physics and thermodynamics courses. After graduation, Beatriz worked as a private tutor and with a national tutoring agency that offered physics and math instruction. In those roles, she tutored general physics courses and algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus AB and BC.
Beatriz views instruction as a way to help students build confidence. While this is a natural inclination in all conscientious educators, she stresses that often, students come to education with a pre-conceived notion of their possible limitations and struggle to imagine a future past those constraints. Her objective, then, is to empower students to see more for themselves and carry their new perspective forward. She says, “I've done my job when students gain new perspectives and when they can look at problems or concepts from angles they had not considered possible before.” By challenging students’ mindsets as well as their knowledge sets, Beatriz expands the possibility that her tutoring will lead to lifelong learning.
A study abroad semester as an undergraduate student helped embolden Beatriz to explore the world with gusto. She was able to study at the University of Auckland in New Zealand, and this experience caused Beatriz to fall in love with visiting islands that tourists are not as inclined or able to visit. Indeed, in addition to New Zealand, Beatriz has also visited Malta and Iceland and has plans to explore other island destinations in the future. In addition to traveling, Beatriz is a seasoned guitar player, having played in ensembles in both high school and college. Otherwise, one can generally find her taking a walk by a lake or in a forest or flipping through the pages of a book at her local library.
