PrepNow Tutor - Geneve D.

Geneve is a math and special education teacher who has worked in various educational settings, including alternative schools. Her specialties include algebra 1 and 2, geometry (up to 11th grade), and environmental science (special education). Her extensive experience training teachers in curriculum design and Common Core standards allows her to tailor each session to be more effective, particularly for students with learning challenges or gaps.
She earned a BA in sociology from Temple University and an MSEd in urban education from the University of Pennsylvania. She’s also certified in 7-12 math and special education. A lifelong learner, Geneve is always looking for opportunities to expand her mind and hopes to instill the same drive in her students.
She began tutoring athletes at Temple and, after years of working in the nonprofit sector, returned to teaching via Teach for America. “One of my proudest accomplishments was getting all of my 8th-grade students to pass their state test in algebra 1. It assured me that I provided them a solid foundation for their future math learning,” she recalls.
Geneve lets her students guide her approach. “I always try to build on students' current knowledge by drawing explicit connections,” she explains. Emphasizing process over product, she aims to build stronger critical thinking skills that students can apply across disciplines. “It is my philosophy that the more thinking is on the student, the more they will retain, so I do my best to ask prompting questions and scaffold them to higher levels of understanding,” she elaborates.
In high school, she was involved in journalism, track and field, and cross country; in college, she served her community as part of Temple’s community service club.
In her free time, she enjoys baking, crafting, weightlifting, and solving Rubik’s cubes.
