PrepNow Tutor - Max H.

Max is a tutor and program manager for a national nonprofit organization that seeks to improve the lives of individuals and communities through literacy. He holds a BA in history with a minor in philosophy from Southeastern Louisiana University, graduating magna cum laude. After graduation, Max took his position as a literacy tutor, and he quickly worked his way into the position of program manager. His proudest moment in these positions is a recent audit that his company performed; he and his team found that they not only met but also exceeded their own expectations.
Max begins any tutoring situation with a singular goal in mind: to determine the needs of the student in front of him. First, he seeks insight directly from students, asking them in what ways they think they can improve. Then, as he begins to work with a student, he uses his training and experience to identify other areas of development that the student might not initially recognize. From there, he crafts a specialized plan for each student, seeking to help as efficiently as possible, but careful not to outpace the student’s needs. Ultimately, he says that his tutoring can be summarized by a mantra: “As fast as we can, as slow as we must.”
On any given day, Max might be found enjoying a number of activities. One hobby of his is to rescue art that might otherwise be neglected. For example, his collection now boasts a rainbow cow piece he got from the side of the road, two pieces depicting the Barong dance he acquired from a reuse store, and an unfinished piece whose artist died during the creation process, which Max picked up at an estate sale. When not scouring the countryside for such art, Max loves eating seafood anywhere he can find it, rooting for his favorite football team, the Saints, and playing with any dogs who are amenable.
