Anna's Bio

Enthusiastic tutor and substitute teacher, Anna has experience tutoring math (algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus) and language arts at the middle and high school levels. She has worked with students one-on-one and in small groups and constantly refines her approach as needed. She uses both feminine and they/them pronouns.

She earned two bachelor’s degrees in music education and music performance from the University of Georgia’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music. In addition to tutoring, she’s excited to start teaching orchestra at a public school in Fall 2025.

Anna, who refers to herself as a “musician, educator, artist, collaborator, and optimist,” grew inspired to pursue education after tutoring peers in high school. Her proudest moment as a mentor was leading her students, playing as a top-level string ensemble, in a performance at a state university. “They worked tirelessly, and their focus and hard work brought their music alive for a packed audience of their peers, mentors, performers, and educators,” she shares.

Anna describes her approach as “demanding and supportive.” “I believe that every student will succeed. Therefore, my guiding question is: ‘What tools can I develop with this learner to meet and exceed their goals?’” She appeals to students’ strengths and uses scaffolding to build on their knowledge. Regarding test prep, she goes beyond content to focus on “confidence-building” and test-taking skills, like managing anxiety. She’s constantly changing her tactics to suit the student and adhere to the latest research-based practices on challenging students while supporting their needs. “I will always value a person over a number on a test,” she adds.

She is proud to have been “a designated student volunteer” at the 2024 American String Teachers Association conference. In 2023, she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, and her stellar GPA also earned her the title of summa cum laude. What’s more, she was named a Presidential Scholar at the University of Georgia.

In high school, she was on the fencing team and took lessons in orchestra and chamber music, which she continued to enjoy in college. She also devoted much time to volunteering with various organizations and community outreach initiatives.

These days, Anna’s free time is steeped in all things art! “I draw, paint, embroider, and bullet journal. I like creating gifts for my loved ones,” she says. She also loves a good challenge via word games and Sudoku. Baking is another hobby of hers, especially decorating sugar cookies. Lastly, she collects unique instruments and adores her hamster named Q-Tip.
