PrepNow Tutor - David M.

A teacher with a master's degree in neuroscience, David has a strong interest in science, nature, and the mysteries of the universe. “I’m open-minded and always willing to improve in personal and professional aspects,” David says. “I believe that education is the most important legacy I can give to contribute to a better world.” He holds a bachelor’s degree in education and music education from Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación, a diploma in neuropsychology and adult neuropsychiatry from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and a master's degree in neuroeducation from Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
After college, David dedicated himself to teaching, research, and music. Since 2015, David has taught music in charter high schools and public schools with students from kindergarten to eighth grade. He loves tutoring test prep to help his students reach their goals.
David started teaching in high school, tutoring math to his peers. He continued to tutor after high school and throughout his education and teacher training, frequently tutoring students in biology, math, and standardized test prep. “However, I believe education is about more than just preparing students for exams; it’s about preparing them to be thoughtful, engaged, and responsible members of society,” David says. “Education should empower students, giving them the tools to think critically, make informed decisions, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.”
David's teaching style is student-centered, democratic, and interactive. “I believe in creating an environment where students feel valued, heard, and encouraged to actively participate," he says. "I strive to foster a classroom culture that promotes curiosity and critical thinking.” Rather than just delivering content, David wants students to engage with the material, ask questions, and share their thoughts. “I see myself more as a facilitator of learning rather than a mere transmitter of knowledge,” he explains. “My goal is to make learning relevant and meaningful, so I try to connect lessons to students' lives, experiences, and interests.” David always encourages open dialogues, allowing students to express their opinions and even modify the lesson plans to make the learning experience more engaging and relevant to them. “This helps them feel a sense of ownership over their education and supports their development as critical thinkers and active participants in their learning process,” David says.
In high school, David played basketball. In college, he practiced yoga and aerial silks, which he still does often. In his free time, David also keeps up to date with music, playing with bands and giving private lessons.
In 2024, David was recognized as an “advanced teacher” by the Chilean public education system, which qualifies him to mentor other teachers who are starting out in the public education system in Chile. “I'm a native Spanish speaker and English is my second language, so I'm able to give classes in both languages,” David shares.
