Nicholas is an aspiring medical doctor with a passion for learning and teaching. He earned his bachelor’s in neuroscience at the University of Chicago where he graduated with honors. Since graduation, he has done biomedical research at the National Institutes of Health, worked as a medical scribe, and earned his EMT certification. He is currently applying to medical school.
Nicholas first started tutoring elementary and middle school mathematics and English in 2016 as a high school student. He connected with the work so deeply that he continued tutoring while in college, then on the side when he started his first post-university job. He focused on test preparation after having performed well on both the ACT and SAT. In addition, Nicholas tutored high school-level mathematics, science, and English. He is well-versed in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus. With his experience in neuroscience, Nicholas is qualified to teach college-level biology, chemistry, and physics.
“I am encouraged and energized when I see my students learn, knowing they are now better prepared to face problems they might encounter,” Nicholas explains. He is student-centered and listens to his students to determine their individual starting points, then fills in gaps and expands upon their knowledge. “My ideal student is both a good speaker and a good listener, someone who has their own direction but also knows how to take direction as they learn to navigate in new situations along their path,” he says. To make lessons more accessible, Nicholas tries to integrate his students’ interests.
Nicholas is a solitary person who enjoys gaming and hanging out with his cat Squish. He also likes to bike and work out. He plays kickball when he’s feeling social. As a student, Nicholas was involved with track and swimming in addition to model UN, environmental club, and drama.
