PrepNow Tutor - Jacob S.

Jacob is a caring and academically driven individual who has tutored students since 2013. He graduated from Towson University's Honors College in Spring 2024 with a BS in environmental science (biology); he also double-minored in mathematics and climate, weather, and society. He is currently pursuing careers in stormwater management and mathematics education. "I do part-time market research for an educational software company known as ExpertTA and have another part-time job involved with my online vinyl-selling business," he says.
Jacob believes that everyone can understand the same material; however, different students understand information in different ways. "I adopt more progressivist and humanist methods to tailor the material/coursework to real-world and relatable references while trying to give constructivist feedback," he offers. "This combination helps the student build upon what they already know while keeping a student-centered approach." Jacob has tutored pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus.
During high school, Jacob played soccer, was in various orchestras, and was also in the Math Honor Society. He continued to play in an orchestra in college. His excellent academic performance earned him the Provost Scholarship and the Honors College Scholarship at Towson University.
In his free time, Jacob loves getting outside and listening to orchestral symphonies. "I enjoy playing the viola, and I compose pieces for strings (violin, viola, cello) with the goal of one day writing a full symphony with strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion," he says. Born with a green thumb, Jacob also tends to over 20 houseplants.
