PrepNow Tutor - Edward C.
Proud public educator Edward is inquisitive, outgoing, and enjoys helping others succeed. He is constantly reading to understand new things. Edward earned his bachelor’s in history at Davison College where he was also a member of the Phi Alpha Theta history honor society. After graduation, Edward joined Teach for America and was stationed in Memphis, Tennessee. He has worked as both an educator and educational non-profit professional.
Edward’s father has been an educator for Edward’s entire life so he grew up immersed in education. As such, Teach for America was an obvious choice. Edward initially worked with sixth graders teaching language arts, then he pivoted to mathematics. He also has experience in literacy tutoring.
“I approach teaching and tutoring with an open mind and open ears,” Edward explains. He enjoys hearing his students speak about their interests and using that to help frame concepts. “I think it’s very important to listen and get an idea of what the individual student is interested in, where they may be struggling, and why they want to improve,” he says. In doing so Edward is able to “build out relevant examples and problems” which allows his students to “engage more deeply with the material while building up the general skills they need to succeed on their exams.” He believes it is important to work together to create a plan instead of using a one-size-fits-all approach to tutoring and test prep.
As a student, Edward was heavily involved in band. He was a member of wind ensemble, concert band, the symphony and pit orchestras, marching band, pep band, and the brass ensemble. These days you’re more likely to find him attending a concert than playing one. He frequents concerts of all genres in Philadelphia. He also likes watching football, soccer, and basketball. He enjoys hiking southeastern Pennsylvania. Edward is also an avid traveler who has been to thirty-six states and twelve countries!
