PrepNow Tutor - Jose M.
Jose is an educator and tutor with a strong passion for helping students overcome challenges and achieve measurable growth. He holds a BS in mathematics from Iona College and an MSED in childhood education and special education from Metropolitan College of New York. During his work as an undergraduate, Jose began his instructional career, tutoring peers in geometry, algebra, trigonometry, calculus 1, calculus 2, differential equations, and statistics. Then, utilizing his math training and training garnered from his master’s degree, he began coaching math for middle schoolers in 2015. Shortly thereafter, he began tutoring ACT and SAT test prep and then transitioned into a middle school special education position. Finally, he transitioned once more to take a lead position as a teacher of fourth graders. The breadth of Jose’s teaching experience has allowed him to work with a variety of students of all ages and achievement levels, making him well rounded and adaptable.
Jose counts as one of his greatest instructional strengths his ability to work with any student toward any goal, regardless of skill level. He pairs this adaptability with a firm, yet supportive approach. He says, “I create an environment where high expectations are paired with unwavering support, empowering my students to break through self-doubt and achieve measurable progress.” He notes that this methodology yields not only academic results but also disciplined and resilient learners. Specifically, he has found that his tailored approach helps students break negative habits and become learners actively striving toward their full potential.
In his spare time, Jose likes most to spend time with his family. As a father of four, that pursuit is understandably dominant. However, Jose has always had various interests. In high school, he was part of the debate and weightlifting clubs. Currently, he owns a blue diode laser with which he engraves handmade items. Finally, Jose is a lifelong learner, and he avidly continues to educate himself in fields such as electrical engineering, chemistry, and astronomy.
