PrepNow Tutor - Mitch O.
Mitch has always loved to share what he knows with others. He bolstered his knowledge by earning a BS in chemical engineering from Northwestern University and an MBA in operations management from DePaul University. After graduating, when Mitch garnered a position as a lab manager, he really enjoyed training other chemists in the lab. He also became a Cub Master for his son’s scout pack because he relished the chance to teach children about camping, hiking, and other scout activities. His decision to get an MBA in operations management and his current role as Senior Technical Project Manager also speak to his penchant for training and guiding others. It was only natural, therefore, that Mitch would pursue teaching. He began tutoring test prep in 2017 and, after a pandemic hiatus, is returning to tutoring.
Mitch enjoys sharing his knowledge with others, but he knows that tutoring is best practiced as the cooperative sharing of information and skills. Indeed, when asked about his tutoring style, Mitch says, "I listen to the students and adapt to their needs: I will try and approach a problem from different angles until I'm confident that the student not only is able to solve the problem, but also understands the concepts and can apply them to other problems.” Mitch feels that this approach builds confidence and eliminates self-doubt. Ultimately, too, it allows the student to make the knowledge and skills their own; Mitch hopes that eventually his students might find joy in sharing those things with others.
In addition to leading his son’s scout pack, Mitch likes to spend his free time in various ways. First, he enjoys keeping up with scientific trends by reading the latest published articles. Moreover, he enjoys reading mystery fiction from the likes of Agatha Christie. Lastly, except on game days when he fervently roots for his Chicago Bears, he generally likes to relax by taking long walks with his wife and their Golden Retriever and Collie.
