PrepNow Tutor - Ruben F.
Ruben uses inquiry-based learning to teach computer science to kids and adults. He has a bachelor's in computer science from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and a master's in computer science from the University of Texas at Austin. Since he completed his master's degree, he has been interviewing for software engineering positions. Ruben's accolades include the title of "Most Resourceful" from The McNair Scholars Program and a spot on the dean's list at UT-Austin.
Ruben took two teaching classes as an undergraduate and loved it. He has taught basic science to elementary school students and computer science to K-8 students; he was also a TA in graduate school for three years.
According to Ruben: the best way to learn is by doing—practice makes perfect! "When it comes to standardized tests, taking as many practice tests as one can before taking the actual exam is the best strategy," he shares. "Seeing the sense of wonder and discovery on the students' faces is immensely gratifying!"
Ruben studied martial arts in high school and played racquetball in college and graduate school. He also cherishes his time as a student abroad. "I spent a semester abroad learning Spanish in Spain when I was an undergraduate and had a great time," he offers.
In his free time, he loves playing board games and video games with friends and reading about history.
