PrepNow Tutor - Vaishnavi N.
Vaishnavi holds a bachelor’s degree in public health from Nova Southeastern University and a master’s degree in public health from Columbia University. Since graduating, she has completed research and worked in the pre-med field. In addition to tutoring test prep, Vaishnavi is currently interning at Baylor College of Medicine’s Center for Professionalism, developing modules and content for current medical students to improve their provider-patient relationships.
Vaishnavi started tutoring in high school and quickly realized she loved helping peers understand difficult concepts. “But I really honed in on my teaching skills while working as a trigonometry supplemental instruction leader at Nova Southeastern University, where I was able to help fellow students with classes I had recently taken,” she explains. “Seeing my students finally understand tricky concepts is a great feeling of validation.” As a tutor and an instructor, Vaishnavi has taught trigonometry, pre-calculus, general chemistry, K-8 math and reading, and more. “I love tutoring test prep because I love watching students gain confidence in their abilities as I help them master test-taking strategies and content,” Vaishnavi says. “I also love being in a mentorship role, where I can form meaningful connections with the students and be their trusted guide and advisor.” Vaishnavi provides a strong academic and emotional support system during stressful times in her students' lives.
“My teaching style is a very student-centered approach,” Vaishnavi says. “I focus on personalized learning, which encourages active participation from the students in asking questions or engaging in discussions.” Vaishnavi also provides continuous constructive feedback to help students understand their progress and areas for improvement. She describes herself as a guide to help the student get to the answer on their own, so that they can comprehend the concept behind each question. “This way, the student is learning on their own, but still feels supported by me,” she explains. “Even though I don't spoon-feed the answer, I still act as a guiding hand for them to lean on for help whenever they need it.” Moreover, Vaishnavi ensures her students feel comfortable enough with her to ask questions if they’re having any trouble.
Vaishnavi was on an Indian classical dance team in college, competing nationwide and acting as co-captain her senior year. She received the Presidential Scholarship and was on the Dean’s List all four years of college.
These days, she loves to sing and go thrifting. Her favorite TV show is Friends, which she has watched through at least five times. “I am a Jersey girl who's now turned into a Texan,” Vaishnavi says. “I love to dance, binge-watch TV shows, hang out with my family and friends, and try new foods. “
