PrepNow Tutor - Nicole K.
A lover of science, Nicole holds an AA in journalism of magazines from Santa Fe Community College, a BS in animal science from the University of Nevada-Reno, and an MS in educational leadership from Western Governors University. After graduating from college, Nicole worked as a vet tech at a small animal hospital before transitioning into education. She has taught all grades from pre-kindergarten to seniors in high school, instructing in mostly science and gifted-student education. She is currently the K-6 Science Content Specialist for a midsized school district where she advises fifty-seven schools on how to teach science to their students.
“I have always loved helping others learn,” Nicole says. “I love the relationships that I get to form with others as well as watching students learn to succeed.” Nicole started tutoring as a college student in 2008. Throughout her career, she taught hundreds of students science, math, and test prep. “I am a facilitator of knowledge,” Nicole says. “I believe that all students have the ability to succeed but may need a road map. I aim to be the provider of the road map.” Nicole believes that open communication and partnership in the classroom are the keys to success. “Just as we do not work alone as adults nor should children be expected to be successful in school without the help of others,” she explains.
Nicole was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2020 and Science Teacher of Excellence by the Space Coast Science Education Alliance in 2020.
As a student, Nicole was involved in the newspaper, Beta Club, Girl Scouts, National Honor Society, and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She remains heavily involved in scouting and is a Brownie Girl Scout Leader and a Weblos Cub Scout Leader. She is also a coach for a Lego League Challenge Club and helps as a STEM Club coordinator.
Nicole enjoys kayaking, hiking, and crafting. When Nicole isn’t teaching, she is with her children, dogs, or ducks. “I was a sheep herder in college!”
