PrepNow Tutor - Heidi S.

A lifelong learner, Heidi is always eager to read something new. She holds a BS in marine science with a minor in applied mathematics from Coastal Carolina University as well as an MAT in secondary science from Coastal Carolina University. Throughout her career, Heidi has taught various subjects in many settings, including eighth-grade science in public school, private tutoring for ages six to eighteen, and arts-and-crafts lessons to informal groups. Currently, she is a test prep tutor and an emerging artist in her local community.
“I realized I enjoyed teaching while helping my classmates with their math homework in high school,” Heidi says. “I have always loved helping others as well as learning new information myself. Teaching allows me to hear all types of perspectives and I'm always discovering something about myself or the student.” Heidi's teaching experience is diverse with a focus on science but, throughout recent years, she has been tutoring math and general standardized test prep. “I like utilizing a very hands-on style where the students can direct the learning themselves,” Heidi says. “I believe learners can discover more when leading the exploration themselves.” She also caters to the individual student’s learning style to be as effective as possible and enjoys using a lot of videos, demonstrations, and real-world examples and applications.
In high school, Heidi participated in marching band, art club, German language club, and Girl Scouts. In college, she was in the symphonic band, Gospel Choir, yoga and meditation club, as well as Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity.
Currently, Heidi loves indoor and outdoor gardening, reading and writing poetry, watercolor painting, and spending time with her dog and cats. She creates items to sell in local shops, festivals, and online. “I have over 40 houseplants," she shares.
