PrepNow Tutor - Kaitlyn A.
With a focus on special education, Kaitlyn has been working with learning-challenged children and adults in many capacities; additionally, she has taught a variety of topics in math, reading, and writing at the high school level. She received a BA in philosophy and the history of mathematics from St. Johns' College; she also has an MDiv (Master of Divinity) from Vanderbilt University. In addition to tutoring, she's a special education teacher focusing on test prep.
After graduating from college, Kaitlyn began working at a care center serving adults with various disabilities. "I loved working with my clients, but felt frustrated by how many of the amazing people I met were essentially trapped in place—simply because they had gone through the American education system at a time when their access to education was not guaranteed by protections we have today like FAPE or IDEA," she explains. She channeled that frustration into becoming a high school teacher and putting extra focus on reluctant learners (i.e., students who struggled to love school because school did not always love them back). "Now, I work in one of the largest public school systems in the United States providing special education services to high school students. I love every minute of it!"
"With over six years of experience as an educator, I specialize in creating inclusive and supportive learning environments for high school students with diverse learning differences," Kaitlyn proclaims. She's a pro at developing engaging lessons that promote interest—even enthusiasm—in the material and learning process. "I strive to always instill a love of learning in my students, not simply instruction," she offers. She loves learning, and her ultimate goal is to create lifelong learners!
In high school, Kaitlyn was a valued member of the art club and Beta Club; she also was involved in her school's Science Olympiad team. She still paints and draws in her free time—her favorite color is cerulean!
