PrepNow Tutor - Diann A.
Diann, who defines herself as “hard-working, structured, and mathematically inclined,” has over two decades of experience working with students in various subjects. Her specialties range from maths (7-12th), social studies, language arts (basic composition and reading comprehension), and sciences (biology, physical science, and general). She also has experience preparing students for SAT math and other standardized tests. Diann holds a BA in economics and a Bachelor of Science Education focusing on social studies from Bloomsburg University. She also holds a PA teaching certification in social studies and math as well as a PA “high qualified status” in language arts and science.
Her teaching experience has taken various forms throughout the years as she has worked with students one-on-one, in classrooms, online, and in nontraditional settings. After graduating, she worked in various educational settings, eventually landing a teaching role in a partial-hospitalization unit, where she worked with students from 7th to 12th grade. In this role, she’s responsible for planning the math, social studies, and life skills curriculum for high schoolers, some of whom have learning differences. For fifteen years, she taught online courses at Keystone High School. She has also helped students with career coaching and coached sports teams.
Diann’s teaching philosophy: “If a student is truly interested in learning something, they will find a way to learn it and it is the educator's responsibility to help with that pathway." Working as an alternative education teacher in a partial hospitalization environment has given her keen insight into how to meet students where they are—academically and personally. She quickly picks up on learning blocks and pivots to new strategies until something clicks. A proponent of dedicated practice, she aims to create a safe space for students to learn from mistakes. For her, building rapport with her students and watching them grow is the icing on the cake!
Diann graduated cum laude from Bloomsburg University (for her BSE degree).
An avid runner, Diann has completed three half marathons and, as of winter 2024, is training for her first full marathon! She loves supporting her own children, going to concerts, and enjoying the outdoors with her border collie and Great Pyrenees.
