PrepNow Tutor - Jen C.
Jen has been helping students increase their test scores since 2016. She earned her bachelor's in anthropology with a concentration in public archaeology from Bridgewater State University. As an undergrad, she started tutoring English, history, psychology, and anthropology at the college tutoring center. After graduating, she worked as a paraprofessional in the classroom but quickly transitioned to teaching her own students. She's proud to share that within two years, all of her students made impressive strides on district, state, and national exams. She then went on to obtain an MA in teaching with a concentration in ESL from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
Jen takes a hands-off approach so students learn to trust their own processes. She believes that establishing a learning plan is crucial; she also stresses students' conceptual understanding of the material (as opposed to only teaching a student how to solve one particular problem). "I really love being able to establish a routine that involves laughing over our mistakes—I make sure my students constantly know that it is okay to laugh and joke when you get something wrong," she explains. "I also try to use current cultural experiences and jokes to bring humor to situations as well," she adds. In addition to helping students become better thinkers and test takers, she also hopes to foster a lifelong love of learning.
Outside of work, she loves reading, knitting, crocheting, and cooking.
