PrepNow Tutor - Paula S.
Paula has 7 years of experience tutoring preschool through college students in all core K-12 subjects along with college-level chemistry, construction management, and nursing; she has also instructed in Latin, Greek, art, chess, piano, and test prep (PSAT, SAT, ACT, SSAT, and various high school admissions tests).
Paula holds a BA in advertising and a BA in classical languages from the University of Oklahoma, where she began tutoring Latin and Greek through a classical honors society and the university’s Classics Department. In addition to tutoring, she coaches gymnastics, trampoline, and tumbling for a local high school along with her own group exercise clubs. She also homeschools her own children and others as part of a homeschool co-op. “I want to be able to help students who will benefit from some personalized attention to achieve their maximum potential,” she shares.
Paula describes herself as “approachable, adaptable, and direct.” Her goal-oriented approach helps students stay on task to meet each objective and, ultimately, larger goals. “I want to make sure that students feel comfortable communicating with me, so we can work together happily and productively,” she notes. She brings her authentic self to each session so she’s able to pick up on what reluctant learners might need to push through learning blocks. “If a student is putting in their best effort, that’s all I can ask,” she adds.
Paula is a nationally competitive trampoline and tumbling athlete who has been decorated with various awards, including 59 state medals, 9 regional medals, and 1 national medal! Her academic prowess has also earned her the titles of summa cum laude and cum laude. Her tenacity and talent were apparent even at a young age when she was selected for Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth and their SAT middle school test program.
In her free time, she loves playing with her chinchilla, her bunny, and numerous mice. A seasoned DM (dungeon master), she loves a good role-playing game! Additionally, she reads neuropsychopharmacology journals “for fun!”
