PrepNow Tutor - Michael N.

Michael has experience tutoring all areas of SAT math, including algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, and calculus. He earned a BA in politics, philosophy, and economics from The King's College in New York (2019), where he was a writing tutor and faculty assistant and graduated magna cum laude. He also enrolled in a postbaccalaureate program in classics at Columbia University (2020) but did not finish due to the pandemic. He later earned an MA in political theory from the Catholic University of America (2023).
Michael took on his first teaching job in 2021 at a college-prep junior and senior academy in Stamford, CT. He has been working with StudyPoint since 2022, at which time he was completing his MA. He has also taught humanities courses as well as sections of history, philosophy, and Latin at Chesterton Academy of Annapolis.
“Over the years, I've found great satisfaction in seeing students achieve acceptance letters to schools they considered a reach,” he notes. Among his proudest moments is one particular note he received from a graduating senior, stating how “the economics unit in my Modern Philosophy class helped shape their career goals and prepare them for the practical considerations of life after high school,” he recounts.
“An effective teacher is able to meet each student where they are; each student has their own unique intelligence, and what comes naturally to some may be a hurdle to others,” Michael says of his approach. He understands that “a teacher must understand not only the subject material, but also the person he or she is working with.” He goes the extra mile to whittle down complex concepts into more accessible parts.
At Chesterton Academy, he was named “Dean of Men,” which involved some administrative responsibilities. He also held writing workshops for students, hosted a weekly strategy games club, and advised seniors on their Capstone writing projects.
As a student, he was in his school’s marching band and Chess Club and played tennis.
In his free time, he loves getting outdoors to play pickleball and go kayaking and snowboarding. He’s also a huge fan of finding new (to him) hiking trails and visiting museums and zoos in the Northeast. If you see him at the Renaissance Faire, he’ll be wearing a full suit of steel armor, “for historical accuracy, of course.”
