PrepNow Tutor - Scott P.
Scott is a veteran educator with over two decades of experience working with students from all backgrounds and levels of ability. While mathematics is his forte, he has also been helping students prepare for the SAT for over ten years. Scott earns his BA and JD from the University of Florida. He later earned an EdS from Nova Southeastern University. Scott currently works as a mathematics instructor at a charter school, where he has worked with students from underserved communities for twenty-two years. He is also an entrepreneur and small business owner.
Scott’s tutoring style focuses on recall and empowerment. “Students are best able to retain knowledge they acquire themselves because they can recall the internal processes that brought them to a new understanding or insight,” he says. His goal is to give the students the tools they need to build the concepts in their own minds in a way that works for them. “It’s the educator’s role to give all the support a student needs but not to do for them what they can do for themselves,” he says. His ultimate goal is to help craft productive, intelligent members of society. “What keeps me coming back every day are the students—being able to inspire them to work hard and witness them achieving small victories they thought were beyond their grasp.”
During high school, Scott was traveling coast-to-coast around the US to compete in various math competitions, both regional and national. As president of the math honor society his senior year, he led his school to first place in the state-wide competition. In college, he was elected to Phi Kappa Phi, an honor society that grants admission based on academic accomplishments and character.
Scott is an avid cook, reader, and Florida Gators fan. He also loves living in Florida, but hates going to the beach. “Sand is just dirt with a good PR firm!”
