PrepNow Tutor - Kelcy H.
Kelcy earned his bachelor’s in biblical studies from Freed-Hardeman University and his MBA from Rice University. He enjoyed several academic accolades, such as a full tuition scholarship as the top male student in Rice University’s MBA program. Since college, Kelcy has gained extensive experience in various industries including multinational companies (at Unilever and Schering-Plough), the U.S. Department of Commerce (in export promotion), and Booz Allen & Hamilton (as a management consultant). Kelcy taught microeconomics and other subjects related to international trade to students from over fifty countries in the School of International Education of South China University of Technology. In fact, Kelcy recently passed the HSK (“Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi” or the “Chinese Proficiency Test”) Level 3 test and completed a certification in teaching English as a foreign language.
Kelcy’s introduction to tutoring occurred in graduate school, and he has taught SAT prep in all subject areas (math, reading, and writing & language). When asked about his approach to working with students, Kelcy shared that he ‘likes to teach in a methodical way, step-by-step, building on what students already know or have recently learned.’ He feels that mastery of content is the best way to build confidence, so students must practice, improve their skills, and maintain continuous effort.
These days, Kelcy enjoys reading and spending time with friends and family. In addition to playing ultimate frisbee and hiking, he has taken up a new hobby with other family members. Together they create huge sand sculptures of animals at their favorite national seashore on North Padre Island. They love to watch people come by and take selfies with their creations! Fun fact: When Kelcy and his son are together, they jokingly call each other "Bob" (after a TV show character, Bob Newhart), even though neither of their names sound anything like "Bob." It often surprises people who don't know them well and think that one or both of them is really named "Bob."
