PrepNow Tutor - Amanda M.
Amanda has over 8 years of experience tutoring reading, mathematics, and science. She’s particularly skilled at working with students who have learning disabilities (including ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, and autism) across K-12. She is also a dedicated test-prep tutor and is proud to share that her students have seen their scores climb considerably!
Amanda holds a BS in education from Miami University and an MA in learning design and technology from Georgetown University. As an undergraduate, she worked as an academic designer for the math intervention team and McGraw-Hill Education. She even developed a product that allowed learners of all abilities to better succeed in special education classrooms.
After college, she joined American Institutes for Research as a test development assistant. Six years and two promotions later, she’s now a researcher providing assessment and content expertise to a variety of clients, including the US Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Education. “I have deep insight into how assessments are developed and scored, which helps me break down the anatomy of a test for my students!"
Amanda’s tutoring style is versatile and good-humored. Her experience working with divergent learners has given her keen insight into when and how to pivot to best serve the student’s needs. “One thing that is a must: we always find a reason to laugh,” she shares. “Whether it's a silly passage topic, a word we've never heard before, or a questionable math context, finding something to laugh about gets students to relax a bit and makes the process more enjoyable.” Invested in her students’ success, she likes to set short and long-term goals—from test scores and GPAs to potential scholarships and dream colleges—with her tutees. Her vivacity and diligence help inspire students to become lifelong learners.
In her free time, she loves cooking, baking, and walking by the lake with Birdie, her golden retriever. An avid basketball fan, she went to over forty Cleveland Cavaliers games in the 2023 season!
